from the Update Manager window.\u00a0 This usually means certain destruction.\u00a0 I think I&#8217;ve only successfully upgraded an Ubuntu system once before.\u00a0 Every other time I&#8217;ve done it, it has gone horribly wrong and left me with a broken and irreparable system.\u00a0 Like I said before on the interwebs somewhere&#8230; &#8220;Every time I do an upgrade.\u00a0 And every time it fails catastrophically and I do a fresh install&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Excuse me, I&#8217;m going to go open the window.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s better.\u00a0 It&#8217;s nice and sunny out today.\u00a0 Dare I say even&#8230; hot?\u00a0 Well, 27\u00b0.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like it too warm, so I consider anything above 25\u00b0 to be &#8220;hot&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now where was I.\u00a0 Yes, the Distribution Upgrade!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/scary-mansion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1051\" title=\"scary mansion\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/scary-mansion-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/scary-mansion-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/scary-mansion.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI always approach these things with trepidation.\u00a0 I always back up my shit too.\u00a0 Like every computer expert says, &#8220;Backs up yo shiznit!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/mc_frontalot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1052\" title=\"mc_frontalot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/mc_frontalot-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/mc_frontalot-199x300.jpg 199w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/mc_frontalot.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAnd my parents don&#8217;t have much on this laptop.\u00a0 Just links in Firefox and a few pictures of their cats.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;ve already completed the successful upgrade from Xubuntu 9.04 to Xubuntu 9.10.\u00a0 Right now, it&#8217;s in the process of upgrading from that to 10.04.<\/p>\n<p>And if this works without a hitch, as it has so far, I&#8217;ll try an upgrade on my laptop, which is an experimental setup for me to try new things on anyway.\u00a0 I have LXDE running on Xubuntu on that thing.\u00a0 And if that goes well, I&#8217;ll try upgrading my music PC, which has Ubuntu 9.04 on it.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like the way Gnome is set up under Ubuntu 10.04, and I don&#8217;t like the direction that Gnome 3 is headed, so I&#8217;ll see what I can do about THAT.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;ll cross that bridge when I get to it.\u00a0 For the time being, I&#8217;m nothing short of amazed that an upgrade has gone like it should.\u00a0 It&#8217;s as if it was meant to actually upgrade the system and not destroy it!\u00a0 Amazing!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, the time has come again for me to run the &#8220;Distribution Upgrade&#8221;
