I like to use my file managers in &#8220;details&#8221; or &#8220;list&#8221; view.\u00a0 When I rock Windows XP or Windows 98, Explorer gets set to &#8220;details&#8221;.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the way I likes it.\u00a0 I have little patience for the default icon view.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a pic to show what I&#8217;m talking about:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/PCManFM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1404\" title=\"PCManFM\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/PCManFM-300x222.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/PCManFM-300x222.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/PCManFM.png 681w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is PCManFM, in &#8220;Icon&#8221; view.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not in &#8220;List&#8221; view because of a certain bug that stops it from working that way in Ubuntu 10.04.\u00a0 And that really fucking sucks because I LOVE PCManFM.\u00a0 It&#8217;s more fully featured than Thunar (which comes with Xubuntu) and way faster than both Thunar and Nautilus, which comes with Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>Now, here&#8217;s Nautilus (&#8220;List&#8221; mode) on my desktop:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Nautilus.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1405\" title=\"Nautilus\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Nautilus-300x216.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Nautilus-300x216.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Nautilus.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI primarily use Nautilus now.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Well, for starters because I don&#8217;t want to use PCManFM if I can&#8217;t use it in List mode.\u00a0 And Nautilus is no longer as slow as it used to be.\u00a0 Nautilus used to be so slow that&#8230;. uh&#8230; that.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, I must now turn to my talented team of Mexican migrant workers to come up with something poetic and sort of accurate to say.<\/p>\n<p>Guys?<\/p>\n<p>El burro trabaja doble.\u00a0 El indio no tiene la culpa sino el que lo hace compadre.<\/p>\n<p>\u02d9\u026f\u1d09\u0265 s,pu\u01dd\u1d09\u0279\u025f\u01ddq o\u0265\u028d \u01dduo \u01dd\u0265\u0287 \u025fo \u0287nq \u0287ln\u0250\u025f s,u\u0250\u1d09pu\u1d09 \u01dd\u0265\u0287 \u0287ou s\u1d09 \u0265\u0254n\u026f s\u0250 \u01dd\u0254\u1d09\u028d\u0287 s\u029e\u0279o\u028d ss\u0250\u029e\u0254\u0250\u027e \u2200<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s much better, isn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 Now you know EXACTLY what I&#8217;m talking about.\u00a0 You may need to translate, but suffice to say, Nautilus is now reasonably fast.\u00a0 In fact, I can&#8217;t tell much difference between its speed on this computer and that of Thunar.\u00a0 And Nautilus has some cool features that Thunar and PCManFM don&#8217;t have.\u00a0 It also has drawbacks, but it&#8217;s the best one I&#8217;ve used for Linux.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t talk to me about Dolphin, the KDE file manager.\u00a0 The only thing I can say about that one is how come the name doesn&#8217;t start with a K?<\/p>\n<p>Okay guys, time to get back in that van and get back across the border.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Look at him!\u00a0 He&#8217;s riding the turtle!
