{"id":1444,"date":"2010-08-14T18:20:38","date_gmt":"2010-08-15T00:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=1444"},"modified":"2010-08-15T18:22:48","modified_gmt":"2010-08-16T00:22:48","slug":"far-better-to-spend-the-money-now-than-save-it-for-when-i-really-need-it-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=1444","title":{"rendered":"Far better to spend the money now than save it for when I really need it&#8230; right?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, here I go buying CDs again.\u00a0 You know, I&#8217;ve still never ever bought mp3s?\u00a0 I always get the feeling that if I do I&#8217;ll somehow get screwed over when I can&#8217;t go and grab the original physical CD to re-rip the music from later.<\/p>\n<p>What the fuck am I talking about&#8230; I&#8217;ve bought hours and hours of classical music mp3s from eClassical.<\/p>\n<p>Never mind.<\/p>\n<p>That actually reminds me, I need to get some of that fine funky classical music onto my iPod.\u00a0 I like chamber music the best&#8230; when you can hear each individual instrument play one part.\u00a0 Kind of like a rock band, but instead of a guitarist, a keyboardist, a bass player and a drummer, you have a violinist, a violist, a cellist and a double bassist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/50719131.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1445\" title=\"50719131\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/50719131-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/50719131-201x300.jpg 201w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/50719131.jpg 398w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAlmost.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s the kind of simple, down-to-basics stuff I like.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not much of a fan of big orchestras playing symphonic music.\u00a0 And fuck opera.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Fuck-Opera.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1446\" title=\"Fuck Opera\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Fuck-Opera.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Fuck-Opera.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Fuck-Opera-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI don&#8217;t mean the browser, but I can&#8217;t really say I have a very high opinion of it.\u00a0 I remember when you had to either pay for it or get fed ads to use it.\u00a0 And for all I know, it&#8217;s still like that.<\/p>\n<p>Correct me if I&#8217;m wrong.<\/p>\n<p>And I tried out the Opera Mini browser on my Android phone.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t work.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not talking it didn&#8217;t render pages right, it didn&#8217;t fucking work at all.<\/p>\n<p>What was I talking about?\u00a0 Sorry, I had a really rough week.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m buying some more Camel music.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m buying their first album again because the remastered version contains a live version of a very long song that was on a Peter Bardens solo album.\u00a0 I&#8217;m also buying a &#8220;Live in 1972&#8221; CD and a &#8220;Live in 1982&#8221; CD, probably just so I can tell the difference between vitality and caricature.<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;m also getting the album &#8220;Stationary Traveller&#8221; and a live DVD from the 1984 tour.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 I&#8217;ve heard parts of &#8220;Stationary Traveller&#8221;, and it&#8217;s not all bad.\u00a0 Not the best thing Andrew Latimer has done, but it&#8217;s better than a lot of other stuff recorded in 1984.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s why I said I&#8217;m spending my money on frivolous things again.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t help it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a music junkie.<\/p>\n<p>But if I ever start to dress and look like Mozart, like Elton John is doing up there, please make me stop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, here I go buying CDs again.\u00a0 You know, I&#8217;ve still never ever bought mp3s?\u00a0 I always get the feeling that if I do I&#8217;ll somehow get screwed over when I can&#8217;t go and grab the original physical CD to re-rip the music from later.
