{"id":1784,"date":"2012-06-25T19:48:51","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T01:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=1784"},"modified":"2012-06-25T19:48:51","modified_gmt":"2012-06-26T01:48:51","slug":"song-of-the-day-sing-a-mean-tune-kid-by-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=1784","title":{"rendered":"Song of the day &#8211; &#8220;Sing a Mean Tune Kid&#8221; by Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh, joy.\u00a0 Oh, happiness and wonderment, etc.\u00a0 Et-Cetera.<\/p>\n<p>Robotman is blogging again!\u00a0 Aren&#8217;t we all lucky!\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tell you something, Buster, I&#8217;m pretty fucking lucky.\u00a0 I no longer have to get up so damn early to get to work early and get home late because I leave work late because of traffic because of construction because of the new train line!\u00a0 Did that sentence make sense?\u00a0 Who the fuck cares!<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s blog posts celebrates the fact that I am now aware that the band <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N5ZYpom6jE4\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago used to actually make GOOD music<\/a>.\u00a0 Yes, you read that right.<\/p>\n<p>My memories of Chicago go way back.\u00a0 And they ain&#8217;t good memories.\u00a0 At my first job, I was forced to endure Muzak, which included Chicago&#8217;s 80s hits.\u00a0 Holy fuck they stink.\u00a0 Peter Cetera is the Devil.<\/p>\n<p>I take that back.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sorry, Mr. Cetera.\u00a0 You probably aren&#8217;t Satan.\u00a0 Probably.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, if you&#8217;re grooving right the fuck out to this here song from 1971 &#8211; and you best be grooving right the fuck out kid &#8211; That&#8217;s Peter Cetera singing.\u00a0 Even he made kick-fucking-ass music!<\/p>\n<p>See, Chicago used to make jazzy rock with horns.\u00a0 They made about 5 albums like that.\u00a0 Quite a lot of music actually because their first several albums were double albums.\u00a0 And this kind of stuff is right up my street&#8230;. it&#8217;s even &#8211; dare I say &#8211; progressive.<\/p>\n<p>And I really like the guitarist too.\u00a0 Hendrix did also&#8230; just before he died.\u00a0 And Terry Kath died too early too, and it&#8217;s an extremely sad story, so Google it up if you want to know the details.<\/p>\n<p>But wow.\u00a0 Who knew?\u00a0 Awesome music from 1969 to 1972.\u00a0 Then again in 1974.\u00a0 And everything after that is downhill&#8230; and then the 80s hit and GOD HELP US ALL IT&#8217;S THE THREE HEADED HOUND OF HELL CERBEROUS!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, if you like the song you just heard&#8230; you probably won&#8217;t like any of the music that most Chicago fans like.<\/p>\n<p>Schmaltzy, safe, maudlin, sappy, saccharine pap.<\/p>\n<p>Well, fuck.\u00a0 This certainly was worth the time you spend reading, wasn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 I like to think that I can chip away at the lives of many that way.\u00a0 I will steal your minutes.\u00a0 You will never have them again.\u00a0 Ha!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh, joy.\u00a0 Oh, happiness and wonderment, etc.\u00a0 Et-Cetera.
