{"id":59,"date":"2009-12-19T23:01:16","date_gmt":"2009-12-20T06:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=59"},"modified":"2009-12-19T23:01:16","modified_gmt":"2009-12-20T06:01:16","slug":"old-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=59","title":{"rendered":"Old games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s way past my bed time.\u00a0 Good lord, it&#8217;s almost 11 PM!<\/p>\n<p>I long ago declared Saturday&#8217;s to be my vegetation day, but I end up doing a lot of work anyway.\u00a0 Still, that didn&#8217;t stop me from playing <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civilization_II\" target=\"_blank\">Civilization II<\/a> again today.\u00a0 I like Civ II because it can run on my virtual Windows XP running in VirtualBox on my Linux PC.\u00a0 And while I play Civ II, I can do some reading.<\/p>\n<p>My screen reader has been telling me all about ancient Chinese history today, courtesy of Wikipedia.\u00a0 I&#8217;m deep in the goings on and intrigues of the Han Dynasty right now, and I&#8217;ll probably continue tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>This post lacks humour, so I&#8217;ll relay some jokes which I made up the day Michael Jackson died.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy Michael Jackson is dead.\u00a0 When I heard that fucking freak had died I immediately smiled and said &#8220;Really?\u00a0 COOL!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jokes about that decomposing soda salesman now follow:<\/p>\n<p>Q: &#8220;Why did Michael Jackson cross the road?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A: &#8220;He didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Because he&#8217;s dead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Take some time to wipe those tears of laughter from your eyes.\u00a0 I know how potent this stuff is.\u00a0 This is comedic GOLD.<\/p>\n<p>We proceed to joke #2:<\/p>\n<p>Q: &#8220;Knock knock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A: &#8220;Who&#8217;s there?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Q: &#8220;Not Michael Jackson.\u00a0 Because he&#8217;s dead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And once again, after you have regained your composure and as you are holding your sore-from-laughing abdomen, you can proceed reading the rest of this.<\/p>\n<p>It won&#8217;t be funny&#8230; sorry.\u00a0 I blew my &#8220;comedy load&#8221; on those two excellent jokes.\u00a0 Read them again if you want to re-live the glory.<\/p>\n<p>Civilization II is even older than Age of Empires, which I&#8217;ve mentioned before.\u00a0 Civ II came out in 1996.\u00a0 I guess I&#8217;m easily amused if I play 12 and 13 year old computer games on a repeated basis.\u00a0 Hee hee.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s something about old-school pre-3D computer graphics that is just fun for me.\u00a0 I like playing with console game emulators for the same reason&#8230; the old ones, of course.\u00a0 Back when a game could fit on a 2kb (that&#8217;s not a typo) cartridge.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone wants to buy me a PS3 so I can play the latest Grand Theft Auto, by the way, feel free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s way past my bed time.\u00a0 Good lord, it&#8217;s almost 11 PM!
