{"id":617,"date":"2010-03-31T19:49:47","date_gmt":"2010-04-01T01:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=617"},"modified":"2010-03-31T19:49:47","modified_gmt":"2010-04-01T01:49:47","slug":"attention-complaint-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=617","title":{"rendered":"Attention: Complaint Department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, bluddy ell.<\/p>\n<p>I heard on the weather today that the atmosphere above Calgary was unstable.\u00a0 No shit.\u00a0 When I got out of work, it was freezing.\u00a0 When I rode the train through to downtown, it was a fucking blizzard.\u00a0 When I got downtown there was no freezing rain but it was about as windy as I&#8217;ve seen it all year.\u00a0 And when I got over to my end of the city, the sun was shining bright.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Calgary.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s doing a number on my fucking head.\u00a0 Fucking weather headaches.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m still pissed off about my fucking printer.\u00a0 Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.\u00a0 That&#8217;s fun to say.\u00a0 Say it with me.\u00a0 Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.<\/p>\n<p>I ordered a laserjet&#8230; so I will have to dispose of my crappy &#8220;all-in-one&#8221;.\u00a0 The scanner still works great&#8230; unless I destroyed it when I threw it into the corner.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll give it a whirl and if it works, I will give it to someone who needs a scanner.<\/p>\n<p>I have a scanner.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very old.\u00a0 I bought it in 1999 when I bought my first printer.\u00a0 That printer still works great, but the douchebags at HP no longer make ink for it.\u00a0 Assholes.\u00a0 Anyway, the scanner, a Mustek, is a parallel port scanner.\u00a0 It&#8217;s really slow, but it makes decent high-res scans.\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t do much scanning&#8230; I only need to scan things maybe 3 or 4 times a year.\u00a0 So I&#8217;ll hook it up to my laptop, which is one of only 2 computers I have with a parallel port input.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m kind of glad I can use it again, because I went through quite a song and dance buying a new power adapter for it when I needed to make some scans a while back.\u00a0 No sooner had I gotten that power adapter than my old music PC died.\u00a0 Motherboard died.\u00a0 And my new computer didn&#8217;t come with a parallel port connection, and I didn&#8217;t think of getting one.<\/p>\n<p>So I got a parallel-port-to-USB adapter.\u00a0 That worked about as well as a wasp exterminator coated in liquid sugar wearing only a Speedo.\u00a0 Then I got a PCI parallel port connection.\u00a0 That never worked either, and I don&#8217;t really know why.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, Uncle Furry told me that parallel port scanners won&#8217;t work on a connection like that&#8230; but printers will.\u00a0 I guess I will never know for sure.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this saga will come to a happy conclusion when I have just a printer and just a scanner.\u00a0 Like it always should have been.\u00a0 What a fool I was to try and use those all-in-ones.\u00a0 When the shitty printer breaks&#8230; as they are designed to do&#8230; you need to replace BOTH.\u00a0 Fuck you, HP.<\/p>\n<p>And Fuck Apple.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, bluddy ell.
