{"id":665,"date":"2010-04-09T22:08:21","date_gmt":"2010-04-10T04:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=665"},"modified":"2010-04-10T18:14:55","modified_gmt":"2010-04-11T00:14:55","slug":"song-of-the-day-fall-of-seraphs-by-mayhem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=665","title":{"rendered":"Song of the Day &#8211; &#8220;Fall of Seraphs&#8221; by Mayhem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ycQ34kqZ-A8\" target=\"_blank\">Link to the song<\/a>, before I forget to actually talk about it again.<\/p>\n<p>You can always count on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mayhem_%28band%29\" target=\"_blank\">Mayhem<\/a> to get the party jumping!\u00a0 Yeah!<\/p>\n<p>Like KC and the Sunshine Band before them, they specialize in filling dance floors with disco dancers!\u00a0 Yeah!<\/p>\n<p>Actually, they&#8217;re slightly darker and edgier than KC and his Krew.\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/mayhem1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-668\" title=\"mayhem1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/mayhem1-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/mayhem1-300x201.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/mayhem1.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some random things about this band:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They go through lead singers like Spinal Tap went through drummers<\/li>\n<li>They come from a place that&#8217;s even colder than where I live (!)<\/li>\n<li>One of their former singers, a fellow by the name of &#8220;Dead&#8221; is dead because he was too fucking hardcore to live<\/li>\n<li>Their founder, guitarist and main songwriter was killed by a former bass player, because either a) the guitarist wasn&#8217;t evil enough b) the guitarist screwed him in a record contract or c) who knows what <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Varg_Vikernes\" target=\"_blank\">that fucking racist murderer<\/a> was thinking and frankly who cares<\/li>\n<li>Their drummer is REALLY FUCKING GOOD and can play the drums REALLY FUCKING FAST<\/li>\n<li>They live with the Tooth Fairy in a sugar plum house high up in the clouds atop a magical rainbow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The history of this band is sordid indeed.\u00a0 Just check out that link on Wikipedia.\u00a0 Despite it all, the ever-changing lineup that calls itself &#8220;Mayhem&#8221; has managed to put out some great music.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care for visuals, so I won&#8217;t even pause long enough to make fun of the way Black Metal bands dress.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, there&#8217;s always time to make fun of the way Black Metal bands dress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0bQM5G5y7ik\" target=\"_blank\">Every Black Metal band looks exactly like this.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Clearly, joyous stuff.\u00a0 Black Metal is a celebration of life!<\/p>\n<p>Well, it&#8217;s actually like every other musical genre that caters to sulking young people.\u00a0 Grunge.\u00a0 Emo.\u00a0 Punk.\u00a0 Country.<\/p>\n<p>Scratch that last one&#8230; that caters to sulking old people.<\/p>\n<p>So are you enjoying the tune?\u00a0 The guy singing on this album was fond of cutting himself on stage.\u00a0 Actually, I think all their singers were.\u00a0 Weirdos.\u00a0 And this singer got fired from the band in an amusing fashion.<\/p>\n<p>He was kicked down a flight of stairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Link to the song, before I forget to actually talk about it again.
