Water Ski (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=4520\" target=\"_blank\">Atari 7800<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Water-Ski-07.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4536\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Water-Ski-07-300x209.png\" alt=\"Water Ski 07\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Water-Ski-07-300x209.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Water-Ski-07-1024x713.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Water-Ski-07.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While this isn&#8217;t strictly a racing or a driving game, I did review it.\u00a0 And damn, is it foul.\u00a0 The out-of-tune screeching music.\u00a0 The garish graphics.\u00a0 The clumsy backward controls.\u00a0 I fucking hated playing this game.\u00a0 I do see how others might possibly enjoy it, but for me, playing this was like skidding down a metal staircase on my shins.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2. Safari Race (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=4045\" target=\"_blank\">Sega SG-1000<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Safari-Race-11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4106\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Safari-Race-11-300x225.png\" alt=\"Safari Race 11\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Safari-Race-11-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Safari-Race-11-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Safari-Race-11.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With controls that are obviously broken, a soundtrack that is literally two bars of music repeated forever, and graphics that are pitiful for the hardware and the era, everything about this game stands out as bad, bad, bad.\u00a0 The premise is even worse.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t force myself to make it past the first stage.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1. Hyperchase Auto Race (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=3804\" target=\"_blank\">Vectrex<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Hyper-Chase-16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3881\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Hyper-Chase-16-225x300.png\" alt=\"Hyper Chase 16\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Hyper-Chase-16-225x300.png 225w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Hyper-Chase-16-768x1024.png 768w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Hyper-Chase-16.png 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With almost nothing but flaws and brokenness going for it, this here is still the worst racing game I have ever played.\u00a0 The Vectrex&#8217;s inability to render curves brings up an interesting feature of the game.\u00a0 When the road tilts off in one direction, your car will magically follow some crazy reverse inertia path that causes it to swing even further by itself in that direction, not straight ahead and opposite to the changed direction of the road.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like the developers of this game were from another alien universe with different laws of physics.\u00a0 And you can get farther in the game longer if you don&#8217;t bother with steering because attempting to steer sends your ugly looking car crashing to the sides of the road almost instantly.\u00a0 There is no fun in this game, only frustration and oblique triangle death.<\/p>\n<p>And now, on with the great games.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/First-Prize-cup.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7290\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/First-Prize-cup-243x300.png\" alt=\"First Prize cup\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/First-Prize-cup-243x300.png 243w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/First-Prize-cup.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">16. GP World (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=4045\" target=\"_blank\">Sega SG-1000<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GP-World-07.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4137\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GP-World-07-300x225.png\" alt=\"GP World 07\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GP-World-07-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GP-World-07-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GP-World-07.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is a surprisingly great and complete racing game from Sega&#8217;s early days, and a thrilling and masterfully programmed 8-bit racer.\u00a0 It has a wicked challenge to it that makes you want to keep coming back to it, and the graphics are very well done for the SG-1000 hardware.\u00a0 Only the limited sound capabilities of that system keep me from scoring this one higher.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">15. Bump &#8216;n&#8217; Jump (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=3595\" target=\"_blank\">Intellivision<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Bump-n-Jump-04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3630\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Bump-n-Jump-04-300x225.png\" alt=\"Bump 'n' Jump 04\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Bump-n-Jump-04-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Bump-n-Jump-04.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A classic from the early days of the arcade.\u00a0 This was also titled &#8220;Burnin&#8217; Rubber&#8221; in some places.\u00a0 I like the Intellivision version the best, even though I&#8217;ve played the original arcade version in MAME.\u00a0 This one has everything a great racing game should have and more.\u00a0 It has strategy too, and you need to know what the other racers around you are up to while you dodge them and maneuver your way through the course.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">14. Pitstop 2 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=3943\" target=\"_blank\">Commodore 64<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pitstop-II-07.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pitstop-II-07-300x211.png\" alt=\"Pitstop II 07\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pitstop-II-07-300x211.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pitstop-II-07-1024x721.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pitstop-II-07.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notable for being the first racing game to enable splitscreen 2-player gameplay, &#8220;Pitstop 2&#8221; is also kick-ass fast-pace fun three decades after it came out.\u00a0 There is some strategy involved in this one too, as you need to make pitstops to change tires and refuel every now and then.\u00a0 You have to make sure your tires don&#8217;t blow out, and that you don&#8217;t run out of fuel, but you can&#8217;t spend all your time in the pits or your opponent will get far ahead of you.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">13. F1 Triple Battle (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=4622\" target=\"_blank\">TurboGrafx-16<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/F1-Triple-Battle-44.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4724\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/F1-Triple-Battle-44-300x262.png\" alt=\"F1 Triple Battle 44\" width=\"300\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/F1-Triple-Battle-44-300x262.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/F1-Triple-Battle-44-1024x896.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/F1-Triple-Battle-44.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The best PC Engine game that sadly never made it out of Japan, F1 Triple Battle is an extremely well-made racing simulator that took splitscreen to the next level.\u00a0 Aside from that, the controls and gameplay are amazing and full-featured, and they make this game well worth tracking down despite the limited number of courses to race.\u00a0 The graphics and sounds really push the hardware to its full potential, and the beauty of the game adds to its fun.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">12. Mario Andretti Racing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=4789\" target=\"_blank\">Sega Genesis<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Mario-Andretti-Racing-16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4885\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Mario-Andretti-Racing-16-300x225.png\" alt=\"Mario Andretti Racing 16\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Mario-Andretti-Racing-16-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Mario-Andretti-Racing-16-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Mario-Andretti-Racing-16.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With great visuals, great gameplay and outstanding sound, this is one of the best racing games I&#8217;ve ever played.\u00a0 It has many features that games didn&#8217;t have until the 32 bit era, right here on your Sega Genesis.\u00a0 Mr. Andretti himself was on-hand to make sure that the opponent AI was realistic, so this one is definitely a challenge.\u00a0 You can also choose to race with Indy cars, stock cars, and sprint cars, so there is some variety in the driving too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">11. Enduro (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=3473\" target=\"_blank\">Atari 2600<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Enduro-13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3506\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Enduro-13-300x222.png\" alt=\"Enduro 13\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Enduro-13-300x222.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Enduro-13-1024x757.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Enduro-13.png 1216w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Screenshots can&#8217;t do this game justice.\u00a0 This is one of the best games that ever came out for Atari&#8217;s original console, and it makes the 2600 do things nobody had ever seen before.\u00a0 The graphics are amazing when you consider how the 2600 works and had to be programmed.\u00a0 Even the sound is nice and almost realistic, which is something rarely said for an Atari game.\u00a0 But this isn&#8217;t just an outstanding technical achievement.\u00a0 &#8220;Enduro&#8221; is a solidly fun and addictive racing game.\u00a0 The controls take skill to master, but once you do, you will find it rewarding to pass car after car, and see the sky change from morning to day to evening and night.\u00a0 This was about as full an experience as you could have on the 2600, and it&#8217;s still great to play it today.<\/p>\n<p>10. Sega Touring Car Championship (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=5651\" target=\"_blank\">Sega Saturn<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Touring-Car-Championship-21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Touring-Car-Championship-21-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"Sega Touring Car Championship 21\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Touring-Car-Championship-21-300x210.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Touring-Car-Championship-21-1024x716.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Touring-Car-Championship-21.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The customizability is where it&#8217;s at with this one.\u00a0 You can tune your car&#8217;s performance any way you like in this racing simulation until it handles the way you want it to.\u00a0 It also supports the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Saturn-Analog-Controller.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">analog controller<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sega-Saturn-Arcade-Racer.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">arcade racer<\/a> steering wheel as well as the standard Saturn controller.\u00a0 The graphics aren&#8217;t as impressive as what the console could output, but the gameplay is terrific, and I give this one a spin regularly.\u00a0 Plus there are a few hidden tracks that keep things a little more interesting too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">09. Virtua Racing Deluxe (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=5573\" target=\"_blank\">Sega 32X<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Virtua-Racing-Deluxe-16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5625\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Virtua-Racing-Deluxe-16-300x225.png\" alt=\"Virtua Racing Deluxe 16\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Virtua-Racing-Deluxe-16-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Virtua-Racing-Deluxe-16-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Virtua-Racing-Deluxe-16.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A fine port of the arcade hit, this one was made to show off the potential of the doomed 32X.\u00a0 Not only does it serve as a window into the very beginnings of polygon-rendered racing games, it&#8217;s also sweet fun to play.\u00a0 Though the graphics might seem dated, the handling of the vehicles is balanced as it should be, and this is a blast from the past that still holds up in so many important ways today.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">08. BC Racers (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=5355\" target=\"_blank\">Sega CD<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BC-Racers-04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5452\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BC-Racers-04-300x225.png\" alt=\"BC Racers 04\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BC-Racers-04-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BC-Racers-04-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/BC-Racers-04.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This game has a caveman cartoon theme and a touch of combat \u00c1\u00a0 la &#8220;Road Rash&#8221; thrown in for good measure.\u00a0 Throw in the scaling and rotation capabilities of the Sega CD, and you have yourself a fine racing game that&#8217;s all kinds of fun to come back to again and again.\u00a0 This one is rather unique in that you race as teams, with one driving and one in the sidecar operating the weapon.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a blast to play and to watch, and it&#8217;s a challenge to get through it all too.\u00a0 Just make sure you get the Sega CD version of this game, because the 32X version is a disappointment.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">07. F-Zero (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=5235\" target=\"_blank\">Super Nintendo<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/F-Zero-21.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5325\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/F-Zero-21-300x262.png\" alt=\"F-Zero 21\" width=\"300\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/F-Zero-21-300x262.png 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/F-Zero-21-1024x896.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/F-Zero-21.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A masterpiece and a launch title on the Super Nintendo, &#8220;F-Zero&#8221; means racing for many who grew up in the 90s.\u00a0 The Super FX chip inside each cartridge boosts the console&#8217;s power and enables it to give you a superb racing game that&#8217;s blazingly fast, challenging and addictive.\u00a0 The sights and sounds are all top notch, of course.\u00a0 What else would you expect from a first-party Nintendo game?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">05. Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=6414\" target=\"_blank\">Dreamcast<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Suzuki-Alstare-Extreme-Racing-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6425\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Suzuki-Alstare-Extreme-Racing-04-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing 04\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Suzuki-Alstare-Extreme-Racing-04-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Suzuki-Alstare-Extreme-Racing-04.jpg 1023w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is a great looking and even better playing motorcycle racer that&#8217;s based on a Japanese Dreamcast launch title.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been perfected and the only drawback I can think of is that it doesn&#8217;t support the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dreamcast_accessories#Jump_Pack\" target=\"_blank\">Jump Pack<\/a>.\u00a0 Other than that, this game really excels at everything.\u00a0 The responsiveness and feel of the controls are wonderful and help to immerse you in the game&#8217;s world.\u00a0 There are lots of beautiful courses to unlock and race through, and the &#8220;chase&#8221; camera scenes at the end of each race are still the best ones I&#8217;ve ever seen anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">04. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=6414\" target=\"_blank\">Dreamcast<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tokyo-Xtreme-Racer-2-10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6484\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tokyo-Xtreme-Racer-2-10-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 10\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tokyo-Xtreme-Racer-2-10-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tokyo-Xtreme-Racer-2-10-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tokyo-Xtreme-Racer-2-10.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another Dreamcast game, this one looks better than many PlayStation 2 games, which just goes to show that the Dreamcast could do more with less in the right hands.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a breathtaking game to look at and still looks amazing nearly a decade and a half later.\u00a0 It also has some of the best music out of any racing game I&#8217;ve heard.\u00a0 The handling of the cars is a little stiff at first until you win enough races to buy upgrades.\u00a0 That&#8217;s all the more reason to keep coming back to the excitement it offers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">03. Mario Kart 64 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=5998\" target=\"_blank\">Nintendo 64<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Mario-Kart-64-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6074\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Mario-Kart-64-15-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Mario Kart 64 15\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Mario-Kart-64-15-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Mario-Kart-64-15-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Mario-Kart-64-15.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet another masterpiece from Nintendo, and another well-known and beloved classic.\u00a0 The original on the Super Nintendo spawned a whole genre and a series of sequels, and it&#8217;s not hard to see why.\u00a0 The N64 version is a favourite of many, and still drives sales of used Nintendo 64 consoles just to play it and its splitscreen multiplayer game.\u00a0 Elements from this game have entered popular culture, and it&#8217;s probably the most-played and best-known game on this list.\u00a0 I love it too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">02. Project Gotham Racing 2 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=6862\" target=\"_blank\">Xbox<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Project-Gotham-Racing-2-17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6971\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Project-Gotham-Racing-2-17-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Project Gotham Racing 2 17\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Project-Gotham-Racing-2-17-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Project-Gotham-Racing-2-17.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Simply fantastic.\u00a0 Actually the third game in a series from the developer, &#8220;Project Gotham Racing 2&#8221; does everything right, and nothing wrong that I can think of.\u00a0 It looks beautiful and doesn&#8217;t fall prey to the camera lens gimmicks that besmirched other Xbox racing games.\u00a0 The ingame music is great, and since it came out on the original Xbox, you can add your own music from ripped CDs.\u00a0 The gameplay is some of the best and most fun racing I&#8217;ve ever had, and I play this one regularly.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">01.
