{"id":9654,"date":"2020-06-27T13:26:31","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T19:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=9654"},"modified":"2020-06-28T11:41:39","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T17:41:39","slug":"what-the-fuck-firefox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/?p=9654","title":{"rendered":"What the Fuck, Firefox?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I thought we were friends, Firefox?\u00a0 y u do dis?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1d1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9655\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1d1-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1d1-300x221.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gratuitousscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1d1.jpg 316w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been using Firefox for a very long time, over a decade, probably longer.\u00a0 If you search for Firefox in this here blog, you will get a long litany of blather all about my various complaints and praises I&#8217;ve had for it over the years.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a generally good browser, but I&#8217;ve always considered it the best overall choice out of what&#8217;s out there to use.<\/p>\n<p>Until now.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that between rounds of sniffing glue, the people who &#8220;develop&#8221; Firefox have decided that <a href=\"https:\/\/old.reddit.com\/r\/firefox\/comments\/gyev5d\/address_barawesomebar_design_update_megathread\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">they&#8217;re bold visionaries of some sort<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure I just don&#8217;t understand their boldness.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure I also just don&#8217;t understand that the way that Firefox makes my computer overheat and slow down is a good thing.\u00a0 That memory leak must be for my benefit too.<\/p>\n<p>And what I definitely don&#8217;t understand is the beauty and elegance of an address bar (sorry AWESOME bar) that is completely non-functional.\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s on strike!\u00a0 Yes, that must be it.\u00a0 My address bar is on strike.\u00a0 It will have none of this &#8220;functioning&#8221; nonsense!<\/p>\n<p>Enter a url?\u00a0 To hell with that!\u00a0 Enter a search term?\u00a0 NEVER!\u00a0 Enter literally fucking anything?\u00a0 What the hell are you thinking, Bucko!\u00a0 This is the AWESOME BAR now.\u00a0 Get out of here with that old-timey bullshit!<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening in the &#8220;nightly&#8221; 79.0a1 build of Firefox.\u00a0 It also looks like Mozilla has decided to cram a small novel into every fucking menu now.\u00a0 Does the menu when I right-click on some text <em>really<\/em> need to take up and scroll past the entire fucking screen?\u00a0 Seriously, 46&#8230; <em>fucking 46<\/em> menu entries in a context menu!<\/p>\n<p>Fuck Firefox for future functions.\u00a0 Ha.\u00a0 Seriously, I&#8217;ve tried out a handful of other browsers for my little Intel NUC to get away from the now bloated and buggy monstrosity that is Firefox.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Midori &#8211; Very light, and comes with a built-in ad-blocker.\u00a0 Missing key features.<\/li>\n<li>Falkon &#8211; Old-style FF look for Chromium, with some addon and theme support.\u00a0 Lightweight too.<\/li>\n<li>Pale Moon &#8211; The only one I could get to work on a Puppy Linux install.\u00a0 Not bad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think Firefox will ever go back to being remotely usable like the way it used to be.\u00a0 Remember when it was the fastest and lightest browser?\u00a0 I think that sadly, Mozilla has gone the way of the Gnome Foundation.\u00a0 They&#8217;re so in love with their own product, that they can&#8217;t see it as anything but &#8220;their baby&#8221;, and they don&#8217;t realize it needs to be functional.<\/p>\n<p>EDIT:<\/p>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;ve tried Pale Moon on some computers where I can install the latest version.\u00a0 Goodbye forever, Firefox.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t let the door hit your bloated, corpulent, waddling backside on your way out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I thought we were friends, Firefox?\u00a0 y u do dis?
