Song of the Day – “Cygnus X-1” by Rush

Linkus X-1.

Check it out!  It’s a guy’s ass!  A guy’s naked ass!  Seriously!  Check out the video link!

Okay, that only lasts for about a minute.  Then there’s a pic of Rush from about 1976.  Followed by more pics by the time you hear Geddy’s bass kick in.

Fuck, this song is SWEEEEEEET.  It’s probably the most aggressively progressive and intentionally undanceable song they ever did.  And it fucking RULES.  Okay, bits of my old high school self are coming to the fore again.

You see, all I ever listened to in high school was Rush.  And other things.  And I’m not so good at making statements that are consistent with one another.  Should high school be capitalized?  Should capitalized be spelled as capitalised?  I am in Canada, you know.  And if you didn’t, you know now.

My blog posts are kind of like black holes, you know.  You know lots, but shut up, I’m talking.  Ahem.  Yes, like black holes they are.  They attract you with something akin to gravity.  Then they kill you with the very same force!  Ha!  HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!

That seems to fit, so I’ll just leave it right here.

So anyway, my posts are like black holes.  They kind of aren’t, but I really don’t have anything interesting to say.  Sorry about that, but my life just isn’t interesting.  I wake up, go to work, work, come back from work, and go to sleep.  Sometimes I have phone sex, which makes me smile for a couple of days.  On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones for tea.

So it’s like gravity that sucks you in.  This force.  You see.  Actually, it doesn’t suck you in so much as it just sucks.  Have you read any of this crap I post on my blog?  It’s terrible!  I should be so ashamed of all this garbage, but for some reason, I’m not.

Here’s a totally unrelated image:

Maybe I ‘ll surprise (surprize?) the hell out of you and talk about the song.  When I was an obsessive teenager, I listened to all my Rush albums like a good little boy and tried to listen for an instance where Geddy Lee sings higher than he does in this song.  Right where he sings:

“Spinning, whirling, still descending
Like a spiral SEA UNENDING!!!”

and

“Sound and fury drown my heart
Every nerve is TORN APAAAAAART!!!!”

And nope, he doesn’t.  I’m pretty sure there was some blood coughing done that night he recorded this.  Probably not actually.  I’m not an authority on much so you shouldn’t take too much of what I say seriously.

So, in this song, Gedddy is singing about how my blog seems at first whimsical, and maybe even interesting.  And then – before you realize it’s too late – you’re in way too deep and you’re looking at stupid pictures I found on Google and reading the most idiotic of jokes… the kind a 3rd grader would find pedestrian.

GOD I’M SO ASHAMED!!!!!
